Testing continued at Paul Ricard, France, on Thursday with the sport’s form teams continuing to tussle for top position.
On day two of the three-day outing it was Toyota who triumphed. Olivier Panis and Ricardo Zonta set an impressive pace to head home Kimi Raikkonen’s McLaren and the Renault pair of Heikki Kovalainen and Franck Montagny.
The times were tight with the top seven drivers separated by just over half a second.
Due to the self-imposed 30-day testing limit the day was also busy with teams attempting to complete as many laps as possible.
GP2 ace Kovalainen, who won last year’s Race of Champions, clocked up the most circuits with a daunting total of 196.
Renault, like the other teams present, were working on Michelin tyre and set-up development ahead of next week’s Monaco Grand Prix.
The only problems to report were at McLaren where Juan Pablo Montoya stopped on the circuit and Raikkonen had engine problems.
Testing concludes on Friday.
* BAR decided to head home after just one day of testing. The team decided that consider they will not participate in next week’s race, there was no point wasting one of their 30 days of testing.
* Italy also saw action with Ferrari and Williams both on track.
The Scuderia continued their private outing at Fiorano while Williams finalised their Monaco preparations at Vallelunga.
