A definite sense of 'deja vu' surrounds Ralf Schumacher following his withdrawal from the US Grand Prix after yesterdays accident in testing.
The Toyota driver hit the wall in almost the same place as his accident at this meeting last year, and was checked over by Gary Hartstein, FIA safety delegate, this morning prior to practice.
"I am basically fine and about 80% fit to drive " Ralf explained, " but Gary decided against my participation because of the risk of another hard impact within 48 hours."
Schumacher Jnr admitted that he "did not feel 100%" and that the decision was "a tough one to make."
Ricardo Zonta, Toyota third driver, will drive in his place, about which Ralf said;
"I'm sorry not to be there, but Ricardo can do a good job for the team."
Zonta added;
"I am especially sorry for Ralf. However, i am glad to be back and will try to make the most out of the rest of the weekend in what is a very difficult situation."
Both Schumacher and Toyota expect him to return for the next race.
