Hopes of changed fortunes on Saturday morning for McLaren's nine Formula One rivals were quickly dashed as the action resumed a Hockenheim.
As on day one of the German Grand Prix – where test driver Alex Wurz was quickest in both practice runs – the British squad set a hot pace early and were never as much as challenged by their opponents in the weekend’s third outing.
Kimi Raikkonen led home a one-two finish with a best time of 1:15.684, just six hundredths quicker than his second-placed teammate Juan Pablo Montoya.
Renault's Fernando Alonso was again the man leading the chase however the gap between the teams had become a gulf and the Spaniard was some seven tenths behind.
The other team setting a hot pace was Red Bull Racing for whom Christian Klien secured a fourth placed finish.
The Austrian, as well as his team-mate David Coulthard in sixth, was highly competitive and headed home some illustrious competition.
BAR and Ferrari, on the other hand, continued to struggle and couldn’t even get within one and a half seconds of Raikkonen's pace.
