(GMM) Tobacco backed F1 teams are still awaiting the British government's ruling about whether they can run cigarette liveries outside of Europe beyond the Hungarian GP.
McLaren sponsor 'West' will withdraw from the sport in Budapest, but Renault's Flavio Briatore - with backing from Japan Tobacco (Mild Seven) - said he would like to maintain the blue paintjob.
''Tobacco has done a lot for F1,'' said the Italian, ''investing a lot for a long, long time.''
Asked whether he would respect the Europe-wide tobacco ban, to come in force after the Sunday of the Hungarian race, flamboyant 'Flav' replied: ''I don't know.
''If we are told not to use (the livery) we won't use it.''
Briatore indicated that the British teams were awaiting a 'letter' from the UK government.
