Juan Pablo Montoya continued a McLaren clean sweep here in Turkey with a last gasp fastest time in Saturdays opening practice session.
The Colombian went round in 1:26.857s, just pipping Jenson Button, the Briton continuing BAR-Honda's promising showing with a time of 1:27.031s.
Fernando Alonso put his Renault third (1:27.119s) just ahead of rival Kimi Raikkonen in the second McLaren, with Takuma Sato posting fifth in the second BAR.
Williams-BMW continued to emerge as the surprise package this weekend, Nick Heidfeld and Mark Webber sixth and seventh and both less than a second off the pace.
Further down the field World Champions Michael Schumacher and Ferrari continue to struggle, the German only managing 14th position with team-mate Rubens Barrichello 16th.
