Toyota Friday start Ricardo Zonta topped the times in second practice at Monza with a lap of 1:20.531 to put paid to a Mclaren clean sweep.
The three silver cars were next in line, Juan Pablo Montoya quickest with 1:21.583, Kimi Raikkonen 1:21.735, and this morning's fastest man Pedro de la Rosa fourth on 1:21.922.
Williams-BMW continued to show pace with fifth and sixth places for Mark Webber (1:22.032) and Nick Heidfeld (1:22.107), while Vitantonio Liuzzi took seventh in the Red Bull with 1:22.253.
Despite Zonta's performance the two race-day Toyota's seemed to be struggling for outright pace, Jarno Trulli eighth and Ralf Schumacher 14th.
Both Renault drivers also failed to challenge the top men, Giancarlo Fisichella posting ninth and Fernando Alonso tenth, both around one second slower than the quickest McLaren.
Ferrari woes continue, with Michael Schumacher 12th, more than a second down on Montoya, and Rubens Barrichello a lowly 16th, half a second behind his team leader.
Disappointing also were the BAR-Honda's, Takuma Sato and Jenson Button managing only 17th and 18th, almost two seconds slower than the pace of the McLarens.
