Alvaro Parente put Team Portugal on top of the timesheets during the warm-up session for the A1 Grand Prix of Nations Australia sprint race.
Parente – who qualified second fastest on Saturday – started Sunday in perfect fashion with a best lap of 1:20.713 to hold out Team Brazil’s Nelson Piquet.
Jos Verstappen was a further four tenths back in the Team Netherlands entry, ahead of race favourite and pole sitter Nicolas Lapierre of Team France.
Johnny Reid (New Zealand), Enrico Toccacelo (Italy), Will Davison (Australia), and Salvador Duran (Mexico) rounded out the top eight.
With two hours before the start of the sprint race, the sun is shinning over Eastern Creek.
However dark clouds remain threatening on the horizon and there is still a chance of rain before Sunday’s proceedings are completed.
