A bad day at Jerez
Accidents prevail

(GMM) Jerez, in coastal southern Spain, was the scene of a formula one scare or two on Thursday.

On day two of the busy group test, McLaren tester Alex Wurz emerged unhurt after smashing his interim MP4-20 into the barriers. The shunt was caused by unspecified mechanical failure, initial reports said.

Not long after, Ferrari's Luca Badoer suffered a huge accident. Sources explained that, not long before lunch, the Italian test veteran was taken to the medical centre after his scarlet car nearly rolled in the gravel before burying itself in a tyre barrier.

A bruise or two aside, Badoer is apparently unhurt.

Also having a bad day is Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, whose first lap at the wheel as BMW Sauber's continuing race driver ended as he rolled to a stop.
