(GMM) England's Dan Wheldon says he is still serious about following the career paths of predecessors Juan Pablo Montoya and Jacques Villeneuve.
Like the F1-racing duo, the 27-year-old is an Indy 500 winner and Indy Racing League champion, but so far the biggest move to formula one has passed him by.
Wheldon came close to a test deal with BMW Sauber for 2006, but he baulked at the offer because it did not guarantee him a race seat.
Since then, speculation suggests he might one day simply settle for a big-money offer in NASCAR.
''When my contract expires with (IRL team owner) Chip (Ganassi),'' Dan told the Telegraph, ''I'll take a serious look at formula one -- maybe more serious than I did before.''
To the British newspaper, he admitted frustration that - despite success, fame and fortune in America - he is not often touted as a major star of formula one's future.
