One second covers 13 in Spanish test
Red flags the order of the day

(GMM) A less informed observer would be forgiven for thinking Spain is hosting its annual grand prix early in 2006.

Nearly exactly one month ahead of the actual race, the paddock and pitlane at Circuit de Catalunya was buzzing on Wednesday, with every F1 team except one turning laps outside Barcelona.

If the five lights on the pit gantry had expired, it would have been a great race; the top thirteen runners - including Renault, Honda, Toyota, Red Bull, Williams, Toro Rosso, McLaren, Ferrari and BMW Sauber - were separated by less than one second.

It was not all plain sailing under the sun, however -- nine separate red flag stoppages halted the flow.

Among team testers, race pilots Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso, David Coulthard, Mark Webber, Christian Klien, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Felipe Massa, Nick Heidfeld, Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Rosberg and Takuma Sato joined the fun.

The only missing team in sunny Spain, Midland's MF1, turned laps with a new aero package on the short Silverstone layout across the road from HQ.
