Alonso admits to settling for second
Spaniard 'turned down the revs'

May 7 (GMM) Fernando Alonso has admitted to giving up the fight after Michael Schumacher emerged from the final pit stop in Germany.

The title leading Spaniard, who finished second to the Ferrari at the Nurburgring despite starting from pole position, said he 'turned down the engine' in order to protect it ahead of the Spanish GP in a few days.

Alonso, 24, said: ''Ferrari were a bit faster than us today, and while our tyre performance was okay, they certainly had more speed.''

Renault boss Flavio Briatore, too, confessed that the Ferrari-Bridgestone-Schumacher package was 'too strong' in the Eifel region.
