(GMM) F1 teams this week paved the way to ridding the 2008 rulebook of the governing body's controversial 'engine freeze'.
At the very first meeting of the 'Sporting Working Group' on Wednesday in Barcelona, a representative for McLaren voted to axe the rule.
Reportedly, eight or nine of the other teams agreed, meaning that the amendment will now be passed to the F1 Commission and World Motor Sport Council for approval.
The new 'Sporting Working Group' means that rules can be changed with a majority vote, unlike in the past when unanimity was required.
''With that sort of majority I'd expect things to be carried through,'' Honda's Nick Fry admitted in Spain, although he did not refer specifically to the controversial plan to 'freeze' the development of engines for a number of years.
McLaren's Ron Dennis agreed: ''There seems to be some uncertainly as to how it will unfold.''
