May 17 (GMM) F1 may have just emerged from a hectic back-to-back run of grands prix, but nearly every team is now up and running again in preparation for the next race at Monaco.
Paul Ricard, in southern France, hosted the most action starting on Tuesday, with Barcelona winner Fernando Alonso topping the field of twelve cars in dry and warm weather.
The Bernie Ecclestone-owned circuit in Le Castellet is set up in the '2D-SC' layout -- otherwise known up and down pit lane as 'Monaco'.
Second quickest was Ferrari's Felipe Massa, while his team comrade Luca Badoer got a parallel test going back in Fiorano. Michael Schumacher will run at the Italian venue from Wednesday morning.
A strong contingent of race drivers also featured at Paul Ricard, including Jarno Trulli (Toyota), Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren) and Nick Heidfeld (BMW-Sauber).
Alonso's test teammate, Heikki Kovalainen, debuted a brand new 'R26' car, while Red Bull's two teams also ran.
Meanwhile, a third test venue this week - the twisty Vallelunga layout - is hosting the Honda and Williams teams.
