May 22 (GMM) F1's governing body, the FIA, has kicked off a six-week chase to find a single tyre supplier for 2008.
The Paris-based federation, headed by Max Mosley, invited interested suppliers to make bids for the privilege by late next month.
The winning supplier will be granted the contract for an initial three-year period, to 2010.
Following years of fierce and costly 'tyre wars', most recently fought between Bridgestone and Michelin, the FIA is introducing the control-formula in order to cut costs and speeds.
Michelin's exit at the end of this year, however, means effectively that its Japanese rival will have an unofficial monopoly on tyre supply in 2007.
Bridgestone is also tipped as a frontrunner for 2008.
