Pirelli returning to F1?
Italian manufacturer considering 2008 bid

It is understood that Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli are considering a return to Formula one after a 15 year absence. A spokesman for the Italian company is reported to have said "We are seriously considering a bid to enter Formula One when the control tyre comes…".

With Michelin still undecided (although probable) as to whether they will be applying for the control tender and Bridgestone almost certain, Pirelli will be facing a stiff challenge although they have a winning history in Formula one. The 1991 Canadian Grand Prix was Pirelli's final victory, in their final year in the category, with Nelson Piquet's Bennetton Cosworth.

As well as a return to Formula One Pirelli are also looking into Le Mans prototypes and rally raids although they have not set a specific time for either of these.
