May 27 (GMM) Renault boss Flavio Briatore has mocked Honda for wanting to tone-down the FIA's planned technical rules for 2008.
The Italian said the Brackley based carmaker's pleas for more technological freedom make no sense because it has not won even a single grand prix.
''These people have never won a race,'' said the exasperated Renault principal, who urged fellow team chiefs to now settle the long-running dispute.
Briatore said of Honda, which is holding out particularly against the proposed multiple-year engine 'freeze': ''In seven years, zero (wins), maybe two or three podiums.
''And each podium has cost (them) a fortune. I don't know what these people are talking about.''
Briatore's view was backed by rivals including Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Ferrari, and coincides with news that carmakers were to present a counter-proposal to the FIA in Monaco.
He added: ''We have the (2008) rules, we don't need to negotiate any more.''
