Michelin make amends at Indy
Refunds and autographs session

Jun.7 (GMM) Michelin will attempt to right last year's wrongs at Indianapolis' United States grand prix next month.

The formula one tyre supplier, which prohibited all fourteen Michelin-clad cars from taking the start twelve months ago for safety reasons, later pledged to refund the cost of every race-goer's ticket.

However, in a further attempt to win back fans, the French company has arranged an autograph session at the Speedway -- featuring every Michelin-shod driver on the grid.

A spokesman admitted to USA Today that the effort is partly to put Michelin's image right after one of the bleakest days in F1 history.

He said: ''There are several rationales for it; that's a piece of it, obviously.

''It just seemed like some effort should be made.''

While Michelin is pulling out of formula one at the end of 2006, Indianapolis' F1 future beyond this year is unknown.

With the 2005 debacle clearly enraging US GP chiefs, a Speedway spokesman reiterated that the issue about a new contract will be discussed 'after we see how this year's event goes'.
