Jun.19 (GMM) F1 tyre supplier Michelin has responded with relief to the dismissal of a legal challenge to its decision to pull fourteen cars from the United States GP last year.
A federal judge ruled that the French company 'owned no legal duty' to angry spectators at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last June, who launched class action lawsuits to recover not only financial losses but also punitive damages.
''Michelin is very pleased with (the judge's) decision,'' said a spokesman for the company's North American operations, who also pointed out that not only did Michelin refund tickets to the ill-fated race but purchased 20,000 tickets for the 2006 event.
He said of the move: ''(It) was the right thing to do in the interest of the fans and the sport.''
F1 chiefs, the Indianapolis circuit, the ten teams and Bridgestone were also implicated in the class action.
