Jun.20 (GMM) Opposition to 1992 world champion Nigel Mansell's plans for a motor racing facility in countryside England has emerged.
The opposition group, called 'Cancel Mansell', refer to the Briton's proposed upgraded kart circuit in Devon - at a cost of about $5.5 million - as a 'monolithic monstrosity'.
Mansell's facility is touted to also feature a restaurant, bar, medical centre and Formula 3 and Formula BMW workshops, but the opposition group argues that it would increase traffic, disturb a rural location, and cause noise and air pollution.
Mansell, who has been granted provisional planning permission, bought the circuit last year to further the fledgling racing careers of sons Leo and Greg.
He told the Times: ''All the concerns they have are spurious and untrue.
''(And) we are not going for a F3 license -- that is complete nonsense and we wouldn't get one.''
