Hockenheim doubt for Speed
Delayed whiplash a concern

Jul.19 (GMM) Toro Rosso rookie Scott Speed is in a ten-day race to be fit to contest next Sunday's German grand prix at Hockenheim.

The 22-year-old Californian nearly had to sit out F1's French fixture after suffering the effects of delayed whiplash from a shunt at Magny Cours last Friday.

He ultimately completed the 70 laps, but only in extreme pain and after doctor checks and x-rays to investigate the cause of the symptoms, which included laboured breathing.

''So, right now there's a lot of work to be done to fix this back problem,'' Speed confirmed this week, ''as I've got some issues there that aren't going to get better on their own.''

He has already called off his scheduled participation at the Jerez test, and is presently in Fuschl (Austria) for treatment 'so that I'm a hundred per cent ready for the next race in Hockenheim.'
