Hockenheim out, Ecclestone confirms
Circuit dropped from 2007 calendar

(GMM) In a major German newspaper, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that Hockenheim will not host the German grand prix in 2007.

''We have so many countries wanting a race that we can no longer have two in one country,'' the F1 supremo was quoted as saying by Bild am Sonntag.

The Nurburgring will host the only German race next year, before Hockenheim takes its turn in 2008 in a season-by-season share scheme. This arrangement is said to be heading for confirmation by September.

Ecclestone, 75, ruled out altogether scratching the country from the annual calendar.

''No, that will never happen,'' the Briton told the newspaper. ''Never.''

Bernie also expressed regret at the departure of NASCAR-bound driver Juan Pablo Montoya, arguing that formula one 'needs' colourful characters like the Colombian more than those in the mould of Fernando Alonso.

He said: ''I think it's wrong when your world champion gives only one interview every weekend.''
