A busy evening at Hockenheim
Midland disqualified, Renault lobby FIA
Midland disqualified from German Grand Prix
(GMM) The chequered flag did not signal an end to goings-on in the Hockenheim paddock on Sunday.

German GP stewards released an evening statement explaining that the MF1 cars driven by Christijan Albers and Tiago Monteiro had been disqualified from thirteenth and fourteenth places after their rear wings were found to allow 'excessive flexibility'.

Although the flexi-wing saga, previously starring Ferrari and BMW-Sauber, appeared to have been settled, post-race scrutineers noted that the Silverstone-made devices failed the load tests and appeared to have been designed specifically to bend at speed.

Renault, too, were busy on Sunday night as the team digested its third successive loss to Fernando Alonso's title protagonist Michael Schumacher.

It is understood that Enstone-based Renault plan to lobby the FIA in the coming days to allow them to refit the banned 'mass dampers', as an appeal hearing is not due to be held until after Sunday's Hungarian race in Budapest.

Although Renault insist that its blue cars' pace was not overly affected by the damper-saga at Hockenheim, spectator Mika Hakkinen observed to 'RTL': ''Perhaps Renault suffered because of this.''
