Cosworth pushing development
Efforts to beat 'freeze'

Sep.5 (GMM) Cosworth is pushing the limits of its current V8 power plant as the FIA prepares to 'freeze' engines for 2007 and beyond.

The independent engine maker's head of engineering, Simon Corbyn, revealed that Cosworth approved a 'very aggressive' upgrade for the Monza race, featuring an upper limit of 20,000rpm.

''Cosworth has pushed hard to approve the best possible specification ... in readiness for the impending FIA engine homologation deadline,'' he said.

Cosworth's effort follows news that Honda ran its brand new 2007 engine at Monza last week, also in readiness for the October 'freeze'.
