Sep.9 (GMM) Leading formula one drivers have threatened to boycott the Monza circuit because their pleas for improved safety are being ignored, according to reports.
As a meeting of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) broke on Friday at the high speed Italian venue, members revealed that a public condemnation of Monza will be made next week unless their demands are met.
''We are not kidding,'' Williams' Mark Webber was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
''This could be the end unless (circuit organisers) get on with it.''
Drivers' patience finally ran out when a Monza official, scheduled to attend their meeting, failed to show up to face the GPDA.
Their concerns centre on the close proximity of barriers, notably at the second chicane, and the use of gravel traps rather than the safer alternative of asphalt areas.
''The drivers are unanimous,'' David Coulthard said, before Webber continued: ''We love Monza, but there must be changes.''
