Sep.27 (GMM) Organisers of the 2006 Turkish grand prix intend to appeal a $5 million fine imposed by the FIA for politicising the podium ceremony, according to reports.
It was revealed last week that the country's deputy Prime Minister, Mehmet Ali Sahin, was looking into whether the option of appeal existed, after the Turkey government promised to handle the record fine.
Initially, it was believed that the World Motor Sport Council did not provide a right of appeal after its Paris summit.
But the sports magazine Kicker and Turkish private channel NTV, as well as media agencies Turkish Press (Turkey), Sport-Informations-Dienst (Germany) and AFP (France), all reported on Tuesday and Wednesday that an appeal is set to be lodged.
The reports referred to apparent meetings between Turkish motor sport federation 'TOSFED' (Turkiye Otomobil Sporlari Federasyonu), and the race's organiser, 'MSO'.
It is suggested that Turkey wants to reduce the severity of the fine, not the verdict itself.
