Ferrari driver Felipe Massa felt there was a problem with his engine during the second practice session at Shanghai this morning.
On further inspection the team confirmed his suspicion, and have opted to change the unit.
Massa will, therefore, suffer a ten place drop on the grid from his eventual qualifying position.
The setback comes as Ferrari are preparing for what promises to be a crucial race in the title chase between Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso of Renault, and between the two teams for glory in the constructors race.
