(GMM) Fernando Alonso's manager has confirmed reports that the world champion and Spaniard was in Shanghai voted to become one of three new 'GPDA' directors in 2007.
The other two, elected at a drivers' meeting at the scene of the Chinese grand prix, are Ralf Schumacher - replacing David Coulthard as chairman - and Australia's Mark Webber, according to Reuters.
Jarno Trulli is the other former director, while Michael Schumacher is set to retire at the end of the year.
Referring to 25-year-old Alonso, Coulthard told the website of British magazine Autosport: ''It is important to have the current world champion on there.''
The GPDA, or 'Grand Prix Drivers' Association', represents F1 drivers particularly on matters of safety.
