Valencia GP2 test
I-Sport lay down the gauntlet

While all eyes have been focused on the Barcelona F1 test, it was easy to overlook the GP2 equivalent taking place at Valencia on Friday and Saturday.

A number of regular drivers mixed with those looking for 2007 seats, and it was the experienced pairing at the i-Sport team, Andreas Zuber and Timo Glock, who took the fastest times in the day in the quicker morning session.

F1 and Champ Car refugee Antonio Pizzonia shadowed the pair in third place for FMS International. Veteran team DAMS also showed well with Williams test driver Kazuki Nakajima among the quickest and Nicolas Lapierre, third fastest on the Friday, showing well too.

Champions ART had hot-shoes Mike Conway and Michael Ammermuller running, and the pair performed very well indeed with the Englishman fastest in the afternoon and sixth overall and Red Bull test driver Ammermuller, fresh from an F1 run at Barcelona, seventh fastest overall.

Other runners of interest included British F3 Championship runner-up Bruno Senna, nephew of the late Ayrton, third fastest in the afternoon for Arden and among the ten quickest overall.

Meanwhile, at Paul Ricard last week ex-GP2 regular and now Renault test-driver Nelson Piquet Junior tested the aerodynamically modified chassis that will form the basis of the 2007 GP challenger.
