Feb.19 (GMM) Fernando Alonso has baulked at claims that he convinced Michael Schumacher to quit formula one.
Seven time title winner Schumacher, 38, admitted several times in recent years that he would hang up his helmet when a clearly faster and younger rival comes along.
25-year-old Alonso won the drivers' championships in 2005 and 2006, last year beating German Schumacher after a season-long head to head.
The Spaniard told 'Focus' in an interview: "Michael stopped because different things motivate him now -- such as his family.
"Anyway, he probably had already decided to retire before the start of the (2006) season."
