Hamilton heads final practice
Mclaren bounce back

Lewis Hamilton’s insistence that he was unconcerned with the pace of the Ferrari’s yesterday seemed fair comment as the Englishman topped the times in the final free practice session for the French Grand Prix.

Hamilton left it late, putting in his fastest lap – 1:14.843 – in the last quarter of an hour to pip Felipe Massa by just a few hundredths of a second.

Those two were the only drivers to break the 1:14 barrier, with Kimi Raikkonen third, some three tenths behind the front two, and the Renault pair of Heikki Kovalainen and Giancarlo Fisichella showing a good turn of speed with the next two slots.

Robert Kubica came in sixth in the BMW-Sauber, his team mate Nick Heidfeld – although passed fit following the recurrence of a back injury – languishing down in 15th position.

Nico Rosberg again showed the pace of the Williams FW29 with a fine seventh position, just ahead of Fernando Alonso, the Spaniard leaving things until the very last minute and only completing four laps this morning.

Completing the top ten are David Coulthard for Red Bull, and Jarno Trulli in the Toyota, with the first ten covered by just one second.

The scene is set for what could be an unpredictable qualifying session, with the most likely interlopers being the Renault pair.
