Jul.5 (GMM) Organisers of the British grand prix on Thursday rejected a proposal to help safe the endangered race.
Businessman Bill Archer, who founded the Focus do-it-yourself stores in the UK, has teamed up with entrepreneur Mike Rockall and vowed to "ensure immediate funds are available for essential improvements" at the Silverstone circuit.
They also want to give the race "a new promoter, relieving the BRDC of the significantly increasing cost of underwriting the event."
The proposal follows a similar offer last year by the property developer St Modwen, which was rejected by the circuit owner's then president Jackie Stewart.
The BRDC is now led by 1996 world champion Damon Hill, but it is chairman Robert Brooks who now says the body does not need outside help.
He explained: "We are pressing ahead for the redevelopment of Silverstone which is well down the line in the planning process.
"Obviously, we will review any joint venture proposal but much further down the road as they may help us fulfil our future objectives."
