There will be no United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis in 2008 following a stalemate in the long-running talks between Tony George and Bernie Ecclestone.
This development most likely points to the US GP being absent altogether from the 2008 calendar, as there is as yet no firm plan in place for an alternative venue at which to hold the race.
Reports indicate that while next season is officially out of the question, the possibility of Formula One returning to Indianapolis in the future has not been ruled out entirely.
Formula One in the United States has never reached the levels of popularity seen with the races at Long Beach, California, in the 1970’s and 1980s, and took a severe blow following the 2005 farce in which the Michelin runners refused to race after the French tyres proved unreliable on the high speed sections of the circuit. That race was run, to the derision of the crowd, with only six entrants.
There is no word as to where a replacement race may take place.
