Jul.15 (GMM) Team reserve driver Markus Winkelhock is still hopeful that the departure of Spyker's Christijan Albers could lead to his formula one debut.
Honda tester Christian Klien's Spa-Francorchamps test for the Dutch team makes him the favourite for the seat, but speculation still suggests that Winkelhock, the 27-year-old German, is in line at least for a one-off this weekend at the Nurburgring.
"I still have a chance, yes," he is quoted as saying by Auto Motor und Sport at the scene of the DTM touring car race at Mugello, where Winkelhock inherited the financially troubled Adam Carroll's seat at Spyker boss Colin Kolles' team.
He added: "For sure if another driver was already certain, Colin Kolles would have told me."
A final decision is expected on Monday or early Tuesday.
Winkelhock admits, however, that Austrian Klien is the favourite.
"Christian brings along about 40 grands prix of experience," said the German, who knows Klien well after they raced together in the Formula 3 Euroseries in 2003.
Kolles, meanwhile, gave little away but acknowledged that Winkelhock is an option.
"I am trying to find a solution for Markus," he said.
