It appears that their will be a French Grand Prix in 2008, and that it will be run at Magny Cours, despite reports to the contrary in recent weeks.
Reports indicate that Bernie Ecclestone, F1 supremo, met with French Prime Minister François Fillon today, and agreed to keep the race on the calendar next season, in principle at least.
Last week the FFSA, the French motor sport federation, declared an intention to see out their contract with Ecclestone, which runs out in 2011, and began to look at alternative circuits at which to run the race.
A rumoured Paris street race – described by Ecclestone as ‘a dream’ - is thought to be a long way in the future, if at all possible.
A spokesman for Fillon added that the race may even be run at Magny Cours in 2009 should no alternative venue be forthcoming.
The news follows reports yesterday that Bahrain will open the 2008 season, a fact denied by the authorities in that country at the moment.
