Decision 'legitimises dishonesty'

Jul.27 (GMM) Ferrari expressed outrage after McLaren escaped penalty in Friday's espionage hearing of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris.

In a statement, the Maranello based team, whose 780-pages of confidential information was found in McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan's possession, said it is "incomprehensible" that a team is not penalised despite being found guilty.

"Today's decision legitimises dishonest behaviour in formula one and sets a very serious precedent," an excerpt from Ferrari's lengthy statement added.

Ferrari also vowed to continue with the legal action already underway in Italy and Britain.

Despite McLaren chairman Ron Dennis telling reporters after the meeting in Paris that he was "not completely comfortable" with the outcome, meanwhile, a team statement accepted the FIA's findings as "very balanced and fair".

"McLaren is delighted that the World Motor Sport Council determined that (the) information was not used and accordingly imposed no sanction whatsoever on the team," the statement read.
