Aug.17 (GMM) A GP2 team is lining up to buy a share of the financially embattled formula one outfit Super Aguri, according to reports.
Honda powered Super Aguri, run by former Japanese grand prix driver Aguri Suzuki and based in Leafield (UK), ran into money trouble recently when major sponsor SS United defaulted on due payments.
It sparked the interest of the Campos Grand Prix GP2 team, which is headed by owners Alejandro Agag and Adrian Campos, who formerly managed Fernando Alonso and drove for Minardi in the 80s.
The two Spaniards met with Suzuki at the recent Hungarian grand prix and discussed the purchase of a minority shareholding, which would leave Suzuki in charge.
In the British magazine Autosport, Campos confirmed his interest in moving up to formula one.
"Now we are focused on GP2, but there are other possibilities," he said.
"Next year in my opinion would be too soon. But you never know."
