Ferrari have announced that Felipe Massa will stay with the team until the end of the 2010 season, ending lengthy speculation that Fernando Alonso could join the Maranello outfit should he leave Mclaren.
The Brazilian has been linked of late with a move to Toyota, apparently to make way for Alonso, but the story was dismissed by the Japanese outfit some time ago.
The announcement also puts paid to rumours that Alonso will join the team at the end of 2008 as, should all contracts remain fulfilled the team now have both Kimi Raikkonen and Massa under contract for 2009, the Finn’s contract ending, reportedly, at the end of that season.
Massa has been a Ferrari driver for many years now, and has amassed a total of five wins for the outfit, three of them this season. Out of contention for the world title this year, he has promised to do all he can to help Raikkonen in his quest to overhaul the Mclaren drivers at Interlagos, Brazil, this weekend.
Alonso is expected to join Renault, the team with which he won the last two world titles, following a turbulent – if successful – season at Mclaren.
