In a decision that will bemuse the F1 world in general, the World Motor Sport Council have found Renault guilty of breach of Article 151c, that with which Mclaren were charged earlier in the year, but have imposed no penalty despite the verdict.
Reasons for the decision will be given in detail tomorrow, as the FIA statement explained:
"An extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council was held in Monaco on December 6, 2007".
"The World Council found Renault F1 to be in breach of article 151c of the International Sporting Code but imposed no penalty.
"Detailed reasons for this decision will be issued on December 7, 2007, and a transcript of the proceedings will be published as soon as possible thereafter."
The case centred around Mclaren IP that Renault admitted was brought to the team by ex-Mclaren man Phil Mackereth, and the team also accepted that a number of engineering personnel had had access to the information.
We will bring you full details of the verdict when they are released.
In addition, McLaren face the WMSC tomorrow, when the hearing will decide on the legality of the team’s 2008 challenger.
