Jan.4 (GMM) Heikki Kovalainen on Friday confirmed that he will make his McLaren test debut next Tuesday, one day after it is officially launched in Germany.
The Finn told the news agency SID that, following the presentation of the MP4-23 at the Unterturkheim Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart on 7 January, he will fly to Jerez.
At the Spanish test circuit, two new examples of the Woking based team's 2008 car will be ready to run. Kovalainen's teammate this year will be British incumbent Lewis Hamilton.
"I will fly from Stuttgart on Monday afternoon straight to Jerez, where the next day I will test the new car for the first time," Kovalainen, 26, said.
"I am certainly quite excited about it," he added.
After the fanfare of the team's 2007 launch on the floodlit streets of Valencia, this year's event was "always planned" to be smaller, Mercedes' competition director Norbert Haug insisted.
Monday's Stuttgart presentation, meanwhile, will be the first time that a new McLaren has been revealed on engine and equity partner Mercedes' home soil.
