Jan.5 (GMM) Former formula one driver James Robert (Jimmy) Stewart has died, aged 76.
The Scot, better known as a sports car driver having contested only the 1953 British grand prix at Silverstone and a handful of non-championship F1 races before that, was the elder brother of triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, and credited for spurring Jackie's interest in becoming a racing driver.
At Silverstone, 22-year-old Stewart qualified his Bristol-powered Cooper T20 fifteenth and retired from his only grand prix.
He stopped racing altogether following a couple of serious accidents, a full decade before brother Sir Jackie made his grand prix debut in 1965.
Stewart's funeral will be held in Scotland.
