The opening day of the Valencia test saw two cars running - the new Renault R28 of Fernando Alonso and the Williams FW30, also making a first appearance in the hands of Nico Hulkenberg.
With the morning abandoned thanks to the reported heavy fog neither driver managed many laps, and it was the Spaniard who emerged quickest with a time just over the one minute thirteen scond mark after almost 40 laps.
German Hulkenberg was understood to be running in a more restrained fashion, and finsihed the day one and a half seconds down after 20 laps.
Testing resumes tomorrow - weather permitting - when all teams bar Super Aguri are scheduled to run, and the event of the day should be the debut of the Honda RA108.
