Mar.14 (GMM) Mark Webber on Friday insisted that, despite setting the second quickest time in afternoon practice at Albert Park, his Red Bull is not in the hunt for a podium in the Australian grand prix.
To the delight of the crowd, the local driver sat atop the times for much of the second ninety minute session in the Melbourne heat, but Webber admitted afterwards that his RB4's performance was aided by a low fuel run.
His teammate, David Coulthard, seemed to confirm the Renault-powered team's potential by going fifth.
But in the paddock, a sweat-soaked Webber insisted: "We're not quickest, for sure.
"It was not too bad but there are at least four of five cars that are quicker than us.
"I'm not even sure exactly where we finished up to be honest, so that's just the way it panned out today.
"There were a few different fuel loads floating about I think," he added.
Meanwhile, Toyota's chief race engineer Dieter Gass said it was a "shame" that Jarno Trulli beached his TF108 in the gravel at turn three.
Gass said the TF108 nonetheless seems to be "in quite good shape" in terms of performance in Australia, with Trulli hanging on for seventh best.
