After quite possibly the worst performance ever seen by Ferrari in Australia, they certainly managed to redeem themselves in Malaysia. It was Felipe Massa that took pole position in dominant form with a 1:35.748. His team-mate Kimi Raikkonen followed him by half a second with a 1:36.230.
On the second row of the grid will be the McLaren team of Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton with a 1:36.613 and 1:36.709 respectively. Taking an impressive fifth was Jarno Trulli for Toyota and he was followed by Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld for BMW Sauber. Heidfeld was actually held up on his qualifying lap by a number of drivers so there may be ramifications for some for that one.
Taking eighth was Mark Webber, ninth for Fernando Alonso for Renault and the final top ten spot went to Toyota's Timo Glock. Alonso in particular was struggling all the way so there is some speculation that he is set up for a wet race since that is a strong possibility for tomorrow.
Tyres seemed to be of some issue for a few of the drivers, namely Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg who had poor performances due to their tyres wearing out on the third sector. Both had set fast times on the first and second sector, but then threw all the time away in the third. They finished 15th and 16th in the end. Vettel's team-mate Sebastien Bourdais also had a very poor outcome, finishing 19th as he ran off track during his hot lap.
