By passing Helio Castroneves with just a few miles to run Danica Patrick became the first woman to take a victory in the IRL series.
On a weekend when the newly unified series ran at two different venues thousands of miles apart, Patrick took a thrilling win at Motegi in Japan over the rest of the IRL runners, while Will Power raced to an emotional victory at Long Beach, where the Champ Car teams made their final appearance with the familiar machinery.
Both series will now re-unite for the remainder of the season, and points from both of the weekends races will count towards the championship.
