The participation of the Super Aguri team in this weekends Spanish Grand Prix is still in doubt, despite the presence of the team personnel and machinery at the Catalunya Circuit this morning.
A statement released by the team this morning did little to shed any further light on recent stories that talks are ongoing following the breakdown of a previously agreed deal with the Magma group.
“Further to the statement issued by Super Aguri F1 Team on Wednesday 16th April 2008 we advise that discussions regarding investment are on going, however, due to legal conditions, we are unable to expand on, allude to or provide further details regarding this confidential matter at present. We would like to thank our Team partners, suppliers, our fans and colleagues in the media for their continuing patience and support, and we look forward to our weekend at the Barcelona Grand Prix."
Latest rumours imply that Magma are close to agreeing a new deal, thought to have come about following the recent declaration by Red Bull management that the soft drink groups 50% share in the Toro Rosso team is on the market.
We understand that Honda – suppliers of engines, chassis and technical assistance to Super Aguri – are insisting upon a contract being in place before the presence of Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson can be guaranteed this weekend.
With time running out, it is looking more likely by the hour that the red and white cars will remain in the garage.
