Another win for Van Der Garde

The second round of World Series by Renault came from Spa, Belgium. After one round Giedo Van Der Garde of P1 was dominating the championship with thirty-two points which is double the sixteen nearest rival Julien Jousse of Tech 1 has, third place was currently a three way tie as Alvaro Barba of Perma, Charles Pic of Tech 1 and Mikhail Aleshin of Carlin all have twelve points.

Race one was won by Bertrand Baguette of Draco after passing long-time leader Salvador Duran of Interwetten with three laps to go.

Championship leader Van Der Garde retired after a collision with second placed Jousse, giving the rest of the field a chance to close the gap.

Third place went to Guillaume Moreau driving for KTR with the rest of the point going to: GP2 Asia runner Marco Bonanomi finishing fourth for Comtec, Aleshin fifth, Alex Marsoin sixth for Epsilon, seventh was Maximo Cortes driving for Pons, Interwetten driver Pablo Sanchez was eighth, Miguel Molina ninth for Prema with Mario Romancini to take the final point for Epsilon.

In race two Van Der Garde put his disappointment behind him as he took his third victory in the first four races of the season. His margin of victory over second placed Bonanomi was 7.2 seconds.

They were joined on the podium by Aleshin with Duran capping off a good competitive weekend by finishing fourth. Daniil Move of KTR took his first points of the season with fifth place, Miguel Molina brought his Prema to sixth place, Marsoin seventh Pasquale di Sabatino eighth for Comtec heading Marcos Martinez of Pons and Alvaro Barba to complete the points.

Race one winner, Baguette could only finish eleventh in race two.

In the championship Van Der Garde has extended his championship lead despite retiring from race one. His lead is now nineteen points back to Aleshin as he leads by 48 points to twenty-nine. Bonanomi has moved into third in the championship following his second and fourth place finishes. He has twenty-five points.

The next World Series by Renault event will be as a support race to the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix on May 25th.
