BF3: Round 3 - Monza
Perez takes double win from 14th

MONZA

Race one saw a great drive from Perez, to claim victory from fourteenth on the grid.

He was helped up to eleventh after Sebastien Hohenthal crashed his Fortec into the back of Mustonen, an incident that took out Henry Arundel of Double R and National Class runner Steven Guerrero of T-Sport, as well as delaying several others as they took to the escape road.

After this he picked off his rivals one by one to win by four seconds from Brendon Hartley of Carlin who himself started down in thirteenth place, and they were joined on the podium by Hartley’s team mate Oliver Turvey.

Esteban Guerrieri of Ultimate was on course for second before he was pushed off the track by Alguersuari. Both spun and Alguersuari rejoined in eighth place but was given a twenty-five second penalty dropping him to twelfth.

The rest of the points went to Walter Grubmuller of Hitech, John Martin of Double R, Sam Abay of Carlin, Fortec driver Marcus Ericsson, Debutant Matteo Chinosi was eighth for Ombra ahead of another Fortec driven by Phillip Major and National driver Hywel Lloyd finished tenth overall. In the National Class Stefan Wilson followed Hywel home with Craig Reiff third.

Perez did it again in race two, starting fourteenth and again winning.

The safety car was called following a six car pile-up that again took out Arundel. At this point he was still in thirteenth place, but he gained six places in two laps, before passing the final two cars late on to win by just six tenths of a second.

Guerrieri was second with Mustonen joining them on the podium.

Max Chilton was fourth for Hitech ahead of Nick Tandy of JTR. Alguersuari for sixth, Hohenthal seventh, Turvey eighth, Ericsson ninth and Chinosi tenth.

Jay Bridger won the National Class ahead of Lloyd and Kristjan Einar who was third. Championship leader Meyrick retired from both races in round three after winning both races in each of the opening rounds.

In the championship, Perez has extended his lead following his double win. He now has eighty points and is thirty clear of nearest rival Oliver Turvey. Atte Mustonen drops to third with forty-eight.

In the National Class Meyrick still leads despite his pointless weekend. He still has eighth-four but Bridger has moved up to seventy-two with Lloyd on sixty-seven.
