Nelson Piquet topped the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Catalunya Circuit, the Brazilian youngster no doubt getting a much-needed confidence boost as he took the Renault around in 1:20.076.
Piquet, who completed over one hundred laps, headed McLaren driver Pedro de la Rosa by three tenths of a second with Luca Badoer – fastest on the previous two days for Ferrari – third fastest.
Mark Webber and Timo Glock – for Red Bull and Toyota – came next in the final list of times, while Nick Heidfeld finished the day sixth fastest but professed himself happy with progress in his efforts to overcome his qualifying hindrance.
Rubens Barrichello completed a second day for Honda with seventh fastest, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in the Williams and Sebastian Vettel for Toro Rosso.
The teams no re-group for the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours in one week’s time.
