Following the confirmation of David Coulthard’s impending retirement, Red Bull Racing have announced that Mark Webber will continue with them as a race driver beyond 2008.
Christian Horner, Red Bull team boss, said:
"We are delighted to confirm the extension of Mark's relationship into 2009. It was a straightforward and short discussion process."
The deal, for a single year, takes Mark into his third year with the team following previous employment at Williams, Jaguar and Minardi. He professed that the decision had been straightforward:
"It was pretty easy. Coming here last year I settled in quickly.... We have consistently performed. It's an ambitious environment and we can be proud of our season so far."
No word was forthcoming on the identity of the driver who will partner Webber in 2009, although paddock speculation has Sebastian Vettel – the German currently with sister team STR – as a logical choice for the drive.
