Van Der Garde extends lead

Round five of World Series by Renault came from Hungaroring in Hungary. Going into the event P1 driver Giedo van der Garde lead the championship comfortably.

And he extended his lead by taking victory in race one after keeping his cool through three separate safety car periods.

Julien Jousse was second for Tech 1 Racing after he pressured Marcos Martinez of Pons Racing in to a spin with ten laps to go. Fabio Carbone was third to complete the podium for Ultimate-Signature.

Bertrand Baguette finished fourth for Draco Racing ahead of Marco Bonanomi of Red Devil Team Comtec, Duncan Tappy of RC Motorsport, James Walker driving for Fortec Motorsport. Pablo Sanchez was eighth for Interwetten with Mikhail Aleshin ninth for Carlin and Marco Barba completing the points for Draco Racing.

Among the retirements included Silversone race winner and Interwetten driver Salvador Duran who was involved in the incident that brought the safety car out for the first time.

Carbone took victory in race two, another race that involved a lot of safety car intervention. It was the first win in the series for himself and for his Ultimate-Signature which was only formed at the beginning of the series.

Jousse finished second for the second race in a row and the two were joined on the podium by Miguel Molina of Prema Powerteam.

The points were completed by Baguette, Alvaro Barba of Prema Powerteam, Alexandre Marsoin for Epsilon-Euskadi ahead of Marco Barba seventh, the other Silverstone winner Robert Wickens could only manage eighth for Carlin Motorsport with Charles Pic ninth for Tech 1 and Walker rounding out the points for this weekend.

Van Der Garde finished twenty-first, three laps behind Carbone after losing out badly in the safety car running.

Despite that no score in race two van der Garde is still dominating the championship and following his two second place finishes Jousse is now his closest rival. Van Der Garde leads by 96 points to 55, with Carbone now in third place with 41 points.
